Can people be decent and moral without believing in a God who commands us to be good? Sure. There have always been kind and ethical nonbelievers. But how many of them reason their way to kindness and ethics, and how many simply reflect the moral expectations of the society in which they were raised?              read more

“As long as I am prime minister, Canada will take that stand, whatever the cost, not just because it is the right thing to do but because history shows us, and the ideology of the anti-Israeli mob tells us all too well, that those who threaten the existence of the Jewish people are a threat to all of us.”             read more

Biblically speaking, faith is without equal in its effects upon a human life because it is the invitation God normally answers with proof. Christ can operate any way He desires, but His usual mode of operation regarding His followers is "'according to your faith will it be done to you'" (Matt. 9:29). Whether or not we like the concept, Christ loves to respond to us according to our faith.    read more

Pursuing being elite is a terrible idea. I partly say this because I worked at Harvard for 10 years, and most people who pursue being elite end up being shaped solely by that: They become nothing but elite. I'd much rather have everyone, whatever their prospects for being elite or not, pursue excellence. Excellence is often accompanied by humility, whereas being elite often is not. People who have obtained mastery of certain fields, I've found, are surprisingly humble, because they've become aware of how difficult their work is.       read more

So its a great privilege but its also a fierce struggle because all the powers of darkness want to shut this thing down. There is a great struggle because the enemy sees the great potential of prayer reaching a certain level of maturity.        read more

"Not everyone in a stronghold of sin is having a good time."

The times in my life when the powers of darkness seemed to rage most violently against me were seasons when I had never loved God more. I was not walking in sin prior to either of the times I fought my hardest battles with the kingdom of darkness.       read more

People don't stumble over boulders; they stumble over stones, relatively small things. It may be that the personality of someone in authority bothers us, and soon we are offended. Or, a friend or family member fails to meet our expectations, and we take an offense into our soul. Beloved, if we will "endure to the end," we will have to confront the things that bother us.                     read more

When it comes to God and His Sovereign right to do all He pleases in heaven and on earth, such is the depravity of mankind that we take our seat in the court of human opinion as both the jury and the Judge.    We want answers!       read more

May it encourage you to always act with humility and kindness as my friend did, to express your words with love, believing the best of the person you speak to. If you are on the receiving end, may these short words encourage you to embrace a rebuke as God’s loving heart to make you more like His Son.           read more

For what it’s worth, this is how I think about whether a circumstance properly belongs in the category of “cross-bearing.” I ask this question: How does this trial present opportunity for me to advance the gospel of Jesus Christ? Of course, every situation is full of such potential. Our response to trials is what matters, seeing them not so much as hurdles which must be cleared but as catapults that propel the message of Christ forward. Suffering is cross-bearing when it serves the cross, when our strength is diminished and God’s power is made perfect. This is how the world sees the reality of Christ.           read more

The caldron where prophets are made, as well as every other ministry, is the local church. We need all of the irritations and frustrations of local church life to mature in Christ. Those who run from these challenges have their growth and potential usefulness stunted at best.       read more

Sometimes I come with very clear and high-level revelation, but I rarely tell them unless I get a clear indication that this is the right thing to do. From the moment I was first assigned to Jesus, and told to keep an eye on the Hebrew Rabi, I knew this man was cut from a different cloth than the rest of the self promoting Hebrew teachers. Two years later, the great World War I broke out, and in the terrible onslaught, when Turkey overran Armenia, every soul in Kara Kala was wiped out. The mockers and scoffers and unbelieving Christians were destroyed. The prophecy given in 1855 and reaffirmed in 1900 was fulfilled in 1914 and the years that have followed. The Pentecostal Christians who believed God and obeyed Him were safe in America, among them Demos Shakarian, Senior, and his family.

In Los Angeles, the same as in Kara Kala, the Demos Shakarian home became the place of worship for the Armenians and Russians.        read more

We can have the greatest prophecies, and even the faith to move mountains, and it all counts for nothing if we do not have love. It is all about growing up into Him who is love. The greatest love can be grown and demonstrated when we are persecuted and misunderstood. Don’t complain about these when they come, but embrace them, and thank the Lord for the opportunity.    read more

...so here I am in hell, in their realm and as I'm hanging there I see this lava flow.  So it would flow into this cavern-like area when it approached me, before I came down to this great big abyss some of it would splash off because of the sheer of flow, the lava would actually be contacting my legs and I could smell and feel my own flesh burn off and what was more tormenting than that is that it would re-form.         read more

Matthew Botsford is seen here with his wife. Botsford says he went to hell while in a coma for 27 days. He recounts his experience in the new book, A Day in Hell: Death to Life to Hope.

I was overwhelmed with emotion as I realized how much I had underestimated the mercy and the love of God over my life. My heart became gripped with a desire to love Him back as He deserves. Hearing my thoughts, the Lord responded,

"My son, the greatest way to love someone is to listen to their heart. If you desire to love Me, then make it a priority to listen to Me and care about what I care about."   read more

I was just aware of myself as a sinner. Not any particular sin so much as the sin condition. I was one of those—a sinner.

And I knew He knew.

And He understood with me, that it really is a shame to be a sinner. It’s lousy state to be in. But He was regarding me, in my sin status, with sympathetic understanding.

...and with the most powerful and tender love.  read more
